.....well actually a "Doug"
My name is Doug and I reside in Minneapolis, MN. Three months ago, I embarked on my Pickleball journey, and it has captured my heart. Despite being aware of the sport, I had yet to discover how it could enrich my life. Despite passing by a popular club near my house countless times over the past 2-3 years, my curiosity eventually led me to pull into the parking lot and step inside. Instantly, I was captivated by the game, especially coming from a strong tennis background, it felt like a natural fit.
In Pickleball, people of various backgrounds, genders, and ages can engage in the sport and excel, showcasing that age is not a barrier. Despite being 63 years old, I compete as a 4.0+ rated player, maintaining solid physical fitness for my age. I frequently engage in matches with individuals spanning different age groups, from much younger competitors (decades+) to older players who may appear less skilled or agile. It's essential not to judge skill based on appearances alone in this sport, as "looks" can be deceiving!
Participating in the sport brings me a lot of joy and, for the most part, puts a smile on my face. It boosts my confidence, ignites my competitive spirit, and fills me with pride. The experience of competing and socializing with other like minded players is truly remarkable!
